Honeycomb Credit Offering $1,500 Grant to US Coffee Businesses
Pittsburgh-based crowdfunding platform Honeycomb Credit announced a $1,500 grant available to one coffee shop, coffee roaster or bakery business in the United States, with no strings attached beyond the submission. The grant opportunity is open to U.S. small coffee or bakery businesses of any kind, including mobile operations, pop-up shops or traditional storefronts. The application deadline is December 16, and Honeycomb said a winner will be selected shortly thereafter. Here’s more about the grant program.
UK Cafe Chain Urges Big Coffee to Ditch Single-Use Cups
UK specialty cafe chain Boston Tea Party, which eliminated the use of single-use cups in 2018, is now calling on big coffee chains to do the same in a new campaign called “Hey, Big Coffee Chain.” The company notes that approximately 96% of single-use cups end up in the landfill in the UK, while less than 1% are recycled due to their thin plastic lining. The company is also hoping to put pressure on political leaders through a Change.org campaign.
7-Eleven Pats Itself on the Back for Introducing Disposable Cups
Meanwhile, Texas-based convenience store chain 7-Eleven is “celebrating” its status as the “originator” of coffee served in disposable cups. In a press release offering 60 cent cups of coffees to loyalty program members on Mondays, the company said it is responsible for introducing disposable cups to the market in 1964, thereby becoming a leader in “commuter coffee culture.”
Torani Launches ‘Flavor of the Century’
Celebrating 100 years in business, San Francisco Bay Area syrups giant Torani announced its Flavor of the Century: Diamond Syrup. Torani is donating 100% of profits from Diamond Syrup sales from now to the end of the year to multiple nonprofits.
Here Comes the Great Northern Roaster Showcase
Minneapolis-based specialty coffee company SK Coffee is hosting the 2nd Great Northern Roaster Showcase (formerly the MN Roaster Showcase, but now featuring roasters from Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin). The event (Instagram link) is designed to connect the coffee roasting community with free coffee, music and more. The event takes place Saturday, Nov. 16 at SK’s Vandalia Tower location, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Roaster Maker Aillio Now Shipping Bullet R2 Pro Model
Roaster maker Aillio said that its newest machine, the R2 Pro is now coming off the factory line in Taiwan and shipping to customers in the U.S. and beyond. With a 1.2-kilo capacity, the new R2 Pro is selling for $4,999 in the U.S.
Pusha T Launches Grindin Coffee Brand
American rapper Pusha T is launching a new coffee brand called Grindin, with a single blend debuting at in Los Angeles at the Camp Flag Gnaw Carnival and Café Tropical, beginning this weekend. A nationwide launch is planned for 2025.
Swiss Firm Launches EUDR-Focused Geo-Analysis Product
Swiss geo-analysis company Picterra recently unveiled a new product designed specifically for compliance with the European Union deforestation-free law (EUDR) affecting coffee. The product is called Picterra Tracer.
New Chair For UK Roaster Paddy & Scott’s
UK coffee roasting company Paddy & Scott’s named veteran restaurateur James Horler as its new chairman. Horler was previously the CEO of the UK’s Ego Restaurants group.
Gregory’s Coffee Axes Up-Charge for Plant Milks
New York-based Gregory’s Coffee has added to a growing list of coffee chains opting to remove additional charges for plant-based milks, such as oat milk or almond milk.
