3rd Long Miles Coffee Auction to Feature High-Scoring Lots from Burundi
Green coffee specialist Long Miles Coffee is launching its 3rd annual Private Auction Collection through a partnership with the M-Cultivo platform. Taking place Nov. 19-20, the online auction will feature high-scoring, traceable microlots from Burundi.
World of Coffee Dubai Returning in February
The fourth iteration of World of Coffee Dubai is coming to the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) in February. The event is organized by DWTC event management arm DXB Live with collaboration from the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA).
Cup Tasters Tag Team Championship Coming to Sacramento
Sacramento-based coffee companies Camellia Coffee Roasters and Old Soul Co. are joining forces to host the inaugural Cup Tasters Tag Team Championship, an in-person tasting competition at the Mattie Groves brewery.
Prediction: India Production and Consumption Both On the Rise in 2024/25
The USDA’s Foreign Agriculture Service released its semi-annual coffee market forecast for India, predicting 2024/25 production to reach the equivalent of 6.2 million 60-kilo sacks, a 4% increase over the previous forecast due to favorable weather. The report also predicts a rise in domestic consumption by 14%.
International Coffee Partners Releases Annual Report, Shows Gaps
The European consortium of large coffee companies known as International Coffee Partners (ICP) released its 2023 annual report last week, highlighting numerous projects to support coffee farmers. The report notes that higher coffee prices have not necessarily translated into profitability for producers. It states, “However, while yields increased, rising production costs were not offset by coffee prices. Therefore, continuing efforts to promote climate-smart practices, income diversification, and food security measurements, especially for vulnerable groups like female-headed households, are being focused on in 2024.”
Heifer and Fairfood Release White Paper and Methodology on Living Incomes
The nonprofits Heifer International and Fairfood International this week released the “Commodity Living Income Strategy” white paper, a data-forward strategy for commodity supply chains. The paper outlines a process for supporting farmer livelihoods through holistic efficiency and income interventions.
Paraxanthine Coffee Company Rarebird Wins $1 Million in New York State Program
San Francisco-based startup coffee company Rarebird, which trumpets the use of paraxanthine as a caffeine replacement ingredient, will be relocating to Buffalo, New York. The company was one of five recipients of a $1 million investment courtesy of New York State and 43North.
Coffee, Hip-Hop and Mental Health Takes Hiatus Amidst Worker Allegations
The nonprofit Coffee, Hip-Hop and Mental Health announced it is temporarily closing its main cafe in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood. According to a Block Club Chicago report, multiple workers recently quit the organization, and at least one has alleged unpaid wages and an unfair work environment.
Schaerer Launches MilkCheck Scale
Swiss commercial equipment company Schaerer introduced the MilkCheck, a compact milk scale that offers continuous monitoring of milk container fill levels, as well as the temperatures within the company’s milk chambers. The continuous fill level indicator delivers precise, weight-based real-time data on milk supplies, according to the company. The company is currently displaying the machine at HoReCa in Singapore, with the Gulfhost show in Dubai up next.
Mr. Coffee Launches a Quick Cold Brew Maker
Budget-focused home coffee equipment brand Mr. Coffee released its new Mr. Coffee Express Cold Brew Maker, a vertically oriented device that can produce finished cold brew in under 10 minutes, according to the company. The device launched with an MSRP of $109.99.
