Best of Yemen Auction Breaks Price and Participation Records
The recent Best of Yemen annual auction set a new record with the top lot fetching $1,159 USD per kilogram, while seeing its highest ever participation from coffee farmers who are women.
First Chicha Challenge Auction Will Focus on Experimental Peruvian Coffees
Through a partnership with auction platform provider M-Cultivo, Peru-based coffee export company Cultivar Coffees is launching the inaugural Chicha Challenge auction. Taking place online Dec. 5, the auction will showcase 12 microlots with a focus on complex fruitiness and floral notes through experimental post-harvest processing. All of the lots are from farmers in Peru.
Vollers UK Launching โHidden Beansโ Auction of Spot Coffees
The Vollers-owned auction platform V-Auction is introducing a โHidden Beansโ online auction on Nov. 5-6, that promises to offer โtreasures from the past harvest.โ The two-day auction will feature spot coffees from numerous trading companies that are housed in the Vollers UK Bury St. Edmunds warehouse.ย
Royal Coffee Has a New Midwest Warehouse
California-based green coffee importer Royal Coffee announced that its warehouse in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, is closing with the retirement of Steve and Laura Ragsdale of Caffeinated Cargo. However, the company has found a new warehousing partner through coffee warehousing and logistics specialist Costa Oro, which recently opened an outpost in Sturtevant, Wisconsin โ between Milwaukee and Chicago โ called Costa Oro Chicago.
Caravela Coffee Opens Dry Mill in Oaxaca, Mexico
Green coffee trader Caravela Coffee opened a dry mill in Oaxaca Mexico called Trilladora El Aguila. The company also operates dry mills in Colombia, Ecuador and Nicaragua.
Satinaki Coop Hosts First Auction for Peru Chanchamayo Coffees
The Satinaki producer and exporter group in Peru held its first online auction of top-quality coffees on Oct. 5. Featuring high-quality coffees from the Chanchamayo region, the auction attracted roaster and importer buyers from all over the world, with a top coffee microlot fetching $27 per kilogram.
Starbucks Coffee Expert
Andrew Linnemann, a key figure in the coffee sourcing and quality control operations of Starbucks, announced via LinkedIn that he his leaving the company at the end of October. Linnemann started as a Starbucks barista and now holds the title Vice President, Global Coffee & Tea. โAfter 31 impactful and rewarding years at Starbucks, I am excited to share that I will be leaving at the end of this month and starting the next chapter in my career,โ Linneman wrote.
World Coffee Portal Launches Annual US Coffee Shop Market Report
Allegra-owned market research and news agency World Coffee Portal released its annual report on the United States coffee shop market, Project Cafรฉ USA 2025. โEspresso-based beverages are gaining in traction, iced coffee sales are booming, and drive thru concepts are expanding,โ the group wrote upon the reportโs launch. โClick and collect is proving popular, while delivery is gaining greater traction.โ
ICO Releases Monthly Commodity Price Report
The International Coffee Organization released its monthly report on coffee prices for September, showing a composite indicator price of $2.5890 US cents per pound, an 8.4% increase from August.
Pintail Coffee Wins NY State Minority & Womenโs Business Award
Farmingdale, New York-based coffee company Pintail Coffee, which donates 100% of its profits to local hunger-relief organizations, was recently honored with The Business Council ofย New York Stateโsย 2024 Minority & Womenโs Business Award.
